Seth Harp, an Iraq War veteran who covered the early months of the Ukraine war for Harper's, discusses how the media spin over Ukraine's recent battlefield gains distorts reality: that the war could be headed into the kind of conflict purgatory we see today in Georgia and Moldova, Iraq and Syria — "a war that never ends, in an unlucky country caught between two past-their-prime superpowers, neither of which has the ability to win outright, nor the humanity to negotiate a compromise, with the result that many thousands die in vain."
